Women's Empowerment and Social Innovation in Tibet

Join us for an evening with Dr. Losang Rabgey, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Machik, a nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC, whose work address the challenges faced in the fields of education, women's empowerment, social entrepreneurship and common dialogue on the Tibetan plateau. The talk will be followed by a screening of Summer Pasture, an award-winning documentary focusing on the changes semi-nomadic yak herding communities in Kham, southeastern Tibet, face due to the changing pace of development and globalization within this community.

The Iran Nuclear Deal: A Net Assessment

A distinguished expert panel surveys the Iran Nuclear Deal, otherwise known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Panelists will address such questions as: Will it pave or block Iran’s path to nuclear weapons? What are the verification issues? What will be the implication of the lifting of sanctions? When and how could sanctions be reimposed? What are the Agreement’s merits and shortcomings, strengths and weaknesses? The Scheherazade Initiative: Celebrating the Resilience of Women and Girls in the Face of Violence

The Institute, for the third year, is co-sponsoring this benefit concert organized by Music for Life International and featuring Scheherazade-inspired works by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Maurice Ravel led by the Indian conductor George Mathew.  This year's concert will benefit the United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women.  Ms. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, the Fund's Executive Director and the Under-Secretary-General for Women at the United Nations, will deliver the opening remarks.

Where Is Israel Going: The Consequences of the Israeli Election

Benjamin Pogrund has lived and worked in Israel for the last 15 years. He is the founder of the Yakar Center for Social Concern, which is dedicated to fostering dialogue among Israel’s many different religious communities. He has also written for Haaretz. While and INSPIRE Fellow at the Tufts Institute for Global Leadership, he began his work on his most recent book, Drawing Fire: Investigating the Accusations of Apartheid in Israel. Pogrund is also a recipient of the Dr. Jean Mayer Global Citizenship Award from the Institute.
