Social Justice and the EU - SOLSTICE
Join an international consortium on the EU approach to the interpretation and application of norms and international laws in regard to human rights, looking at the impact of EU engagement with human rights both within Europe and outside Europe. This effort will be led by Mario De Caro, Professor of Moral Philosophy, University of Roma Tre, and Erin Kelly, Chair of Philosophy, Tufts University.

Human Rights and EU Peacekeeping
On the 20th anniversary of the collapse of the “safe area” of Srebrenica and the largest massacre in Europe since WWII, work with analysts and scholars from the National Security Archive, The Hague Institute for Global Justice, and the Tufts Institute for Mass Atrocity and Genocide (IMAGe) to research this atrocity.

Civil Society and Non Violent Resistance
Study with experts and scholars from CANVAS (Center for Applied Non-Violent Action and Strategies), including Srdja Popovic, founder of Otpor! and a key figure in the nonviolent struggle against Slobodan Milosevic, and Tufts Fletcher School Professor of the Practice Eileen Babbitt.

Media, Freedom of Expression, and Hate Speech
Probe the dimensions of this controversial continuum with such journalists, media experts and activists as Zineb El Rhazoui, former columnist at Charlie Hebdo; Thomas Hughes, Executive Director, Article 19: Defending Freedom of Expression and Information; Razia Iqbal, Presenter, BBC Newshour; and Kenan Malik, author of From Fatwa to Jihad: The Rushdie Affair and its Legacy.

The Power and Politics of Memory
Join an investigation into the ongoing impact and repercussions on contemporary European politics and culture of Franco’s Spain, France’s reconciliation with its Vichy Regime, Germany with its Holocaust past, lustration and post- Communist societies.

Migration
Join a research team investigation into the causes and human and societal costs of immigration, led by such experts as Paolo Cuttitta, post-doctoral researcher at VU University of Amsterdam.

Tufts European Horizons EU Chapter
Participate in the creation of a Tufts chapter of European Horizons, a US-based nonpartisan think tank exploring European identity, the concept of the social market economy, European integration, and transatlantic relations.

European Roma
Think and work with distinguished human rights and global health experts, including Margareta Matache, FXB Project Director at the Harvard School of Public Health, to address the profound marginalization of the Roma community in Europe.

The European Security Environment
Explore Russian-European security relations, EU-NATO relations, and hybrid warfare and the Baltics with the IGL’s ALLIES program and military and security experts, including Michael Peznola, the IGL’s Executive Director (Col, USMC (Ret.); Lt.Col Donald Thieme, Professor of Policy Analysis, US Naval War College; and Professor Richard Shultz, Director, International Security Studies, The Fletcher School.
