Sam James '10

Samuel James is a photographer, writer and educator from Cincinnati, Ohio. His work addresses issues of inequity, energy and the environment. He is the recipient of the Overseas Press Club Olivier Rebbot Award, the International Center of Photography Infinity Award and a 2013 Getty Images Editorial Grant. He is the co-founder of the Program for Narrative and Documentary Practice at the Institute for Global Leadership at Tufts University and a Contributing Artist at Harper’s Magazine.
 

Leah Meadows '14

Leah Meadows (F14) was the Graduate Coordinator of the Empower Program from 2013-14 when she pursued her Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy at The Fletcher School, with a focus in development economics, human security, and gender. As an Empower Fellow during the summer of 2013, Leah conducted a gender analysis and gender integration assessment for Mercy Corps Indonesia’s Agri-Fin Mobile program, which provides farmers with agricultural information and financial services through cell phone technology. Prior to The Fletcher School, Leah worked as the Program Associate of Women and Population at the United Nations Foundation (UNF), where she managed the adolescent girl portfolio, including research, advocacy, and programming in Ethiopia, Liberia, Malawi, and Guatemala. She also managed a $1.2 million grant to research girls in rural economies and adolescent girls' migration in West Africa. Prior to UNF, Leah worked as the Creative Coordinator for an international jewelry company in Singapore. 

Mark Rafferty '13

Jordan - Amman

Mark Rafferty graduated from Tufts in 2013, where he majored in International Relations (Middle East and South Asia) and Arabic. At Tufts, he participated in the EPIIC 2009-2010 Colloquium on South Asia and was a member of NIMEP for three years. He participated in the group's 2011 fact finding trip to Iraqi Kurdistan, where he researched the region's trade and social ties with Iran. Mark currently lives in Jordan and works for Questscope, a social development organization providing alternative education options to marginalized youth, and he plans to pursue a career working in social development in the region.
