In 2018, students traveled to Ecuador to continue progress with the Koombook program. Koombook is a digital library designed to provide access to educational materials for individuals in remote and isolated areas. Tufts International Development has been working in collaboration with the NGO Avanti and Libraries Without Borders to implement Koombook since 2016.

Elmira Askerova went to Astana, Kazakhstan to work with a newly established social enterprise whose main goal is to create job opportunities for marginalized citizens like the disabled, single mothers and orphans.
Olivia Ng (A’20) interned with Medic Mobile in Kenya during the summer of 2018. She helped train community health workers on the technology platform that serves to digitalize health information. This technology empowers health workers within the communities and improves the overall health outcomes.
Empower Fellow Grishma Rimal interned at Ashoka: Innovators for the Public in Washington, D.C during the summer of 2018. There, she worked with the Impact Analysis and Evaluation team.
Robert Davis (F'19) worked with the Refuge for the Refugees (RFTR) in Malaysia during the summer of 2018. There, he helped raise awareness regarding the status of refugees in Malaysia as well as provide education for refugee children.
Maggie Kellogg worked with the African Entrepreneur Collective in Rwanda to explore the 'missing middle', 2016
