Marcus Larsen-Strecker

Marcus Larsen-Strecker is a senior at Tufts University majoring in International Relations, and Asian Studies, and minoring in Chinese language and literature, and Studio Art.  Marcus is from Brookline, Massachusetts, but he has spent significant time abroad.  Most recently, Marcus spent the spring of 2012 as a student in Taipei, Taiwan, and the summer of 2011 teaching math and dance in rural schools in Inner Mongolia and Ningxia, China as a Luce and Fulbright scholar through Hamilton College’s ACC field studies program.  Following graduation, Marcus hopes to further his interest in Chinese language and Asian Studies, while incorporating the skills and knowledge he acquires this coming year from the EPIIC global health colloquium.

Lindsay Lebel

Lindsay is a senior studying Community Health and Arabic at Tufts, and is in the five year BA/MPH program. A summer in the French Alps nurtured a wanderlust that led Lindsay to Fez last fall, where she studied Arabic, examined Morocco's system of traditional medicine, and drowned in mint tea. Her research on traditional/alternative medicine continued in India, Argentina and South Africa through the spring semester. Lindsay's favorite place is still her home in Maine, where she spent this past summer gardening, learning carpentry from her father, printing a 250-page fieldbook of her travels, brewing kombucha and exploring herbalism and the healing powers of tea. She is so grateful to be a member of EPIIC this year and has no doubt that her reentry to the Tufts community will be as adventure-laden as her departure.

Daniel Lewis

Daniel Lewis is a freshman from Washington, DC, who is currently undecided on his field of study. As part of the inaugural Tufts 1+4 Class, Daniel spent the past year living with a host family in Florianopolis, Brazil and interning at a non-profit and a tech company. He has also participated in the Seeds of Peace conflict resolution program, which brings together kids from conflict regions around the world for an intensive, three-week summer camp. He speaks Portuguese and hopes to pursue both Portuguese and Spanish going forward with his college career. Daniel is also a published writer, with pieces appearing in the Stanford Social Innovation Review, The Hill and Newsday. He loves movies of all varieties and debating any topic that begets an opinion.

Cheng Li

Cheng is an international student from China, majoring in International Relations and Economics. He was born and raised in the coastal city Shenzhen. His interest in foreign affairs is tremendously shaped by his experience in Model United Nations. His engagements include US Senate, Security Council, OPEC summit and NATO Committee. Therefore, this experience also framed Cheng as an institutionalist who believes in the impact of institutions in shaping the global political atmosphere. He also participated in the Georgetown Summer Program studying US foreign policy, where he found enlightenment in International Relations and developed a greater interest in exploring the future roles of different great powers, especially China.

Rebekah Liebermann

Rebekah Liebermann is currently a senior at Tufts, studying International Relations with a concentration in Global Health, Nutrition, and the Environment. She is in her fourth year of studying Arabic and also speaks Spanish and Hebrew, which she hopes to use in future work with refugees. She is the director of CORES, a student group that provides ESL courses, preparation for the U.S. citizenship exam, and other services to Spanish-speaking immigrants and refugees in Somerville from Latin America. She spent her semester abroad in Amman, Jordan and hopes to return to the region after graduation to work on immigrant- and refugee-related issues there.

Tong Liu

Tong is a freshman at Tufts interested in studying International Relations. He was born in Beijing, China, but grew up in Massachusetts. As a senior in high school, he attended the EPIIC Symposium on “Europe in Turmoil”, a major influence in his decision to both attend Tufts and EPIIC. He spent the summer interning on a local political campaign. A member of the Tufts Debate Society, his interest in foreign affairs and diplomacy was greatly fanned by his experiences in Speech and Debate. His time spent in the United States and with family in China also gives him an interest in international matters and exposed him to various views on global issues. Although not uniquely interested in a certain aspect of the colloquium, he is enthusiastic in deepening his knowledge about the forces that have shaped and continue to shape everything he has learned and grown to love.

Christina Liu

Christina Liu is a senior and aspiring physician studying Biology from Parsippany, New Jersey. She is involved with the Little Sibling/Big Sibling program and was a resident assistant for two years. This past summer, Christina did leukemia research at the A.I. Dupont Hospital for Children. Her other hobbies include cooking, snowboarding, and playing tennis.

Quentin Lott

Quentin is a junior from Albany, NY. He is majoring in Biology and is pursuing the premedical curriculum while at Tufts. His main interests in the Global Health arena include perinatal nutrition, environmental health, and infectious disease. He is a board member of the Sharewood Project and is co-director of Sex Talk through the Leonard Carmichael Society. He hopes his time in EPIIC will help him refine his medical interests and allow him to further explore the field of Global Health.

Shelby Luce

Shelby is a sophomore from Carmel, California. She is passionate about social justice issues and is interested in studying Environmental Science and Community Health. Along with participating in EPIIC, she is the Co-Director of the Tufts Sustainability Collective, is a member of the Tufts Dance Collective, is part of Tufts Club Soccer, and is involved in Tufts Partners in Health. This past summer, Shelby worked for Girl Rising in New York City. She is passionate about Russian military strategy and Russian agricultural issues.

Samantha Lund

Samantha is a token Midwesterner, hailing from St. Louis, Missouri. She is a senior double majoring in international relations with a concentration in global health and community health. She also accidentally has a minor in German and dabbles in the pre-med world. Outside of class, Samantha is a leader for Tufts Wilderness Orientation, on the ski team, a clinic coordinator for the Sharewood Health Clinic, and a member of the Tufts Dance Collective. She studied abroad in India, focusing on public health and specifically researching adolescent sexual health education in Kerala. Those amazing, eye-opening four months combined with interning in Everett, MA this past summer working to reduce obesity by increasing access to healthy foods and physical activity, have convinced Samantha she is destined for a career in health (exactly what is still unknown). She has yet to pick up the Boston accent in her spare time, but she most likely can be found tramping around outside, dancing in pink crocs, reading with her cat, or watching a St. Louis sports game. She is honored to be in EPIIC devoting the year to intensive study and learning from her peers.
