As Latin American countries grapple with the COVID-19 crisis, a second hidden pandemic is on the rise: domestic abuse and gender-based violence. Emergency calls regarding this problem have increased by 60% in Mexico and by 25% in Argentina. Imposed residential groups, gender-based pandemic policies, and lack of data have aggravated the repercussions of sexism in various countries. On August 7th at 6:00 pm EST, the Tufts Latin American Committee (LAC) invites you to hear three professionals from the field dissect the problem, share possible solutions, and present a comparative view of the region’s efforts to combat this crisis.

Lia Limon-Federal Deputy for the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico and President of the Radio and Television Commission

Anjuli Fahlberg- Assistant Professor in Dept. of Sociology at Tufts and Co-Director of Research Center Construindo Juntos

Silvana Fumega- Research and Policy Leader of the Latin American Initiative for Open Data (ILDA)
