Join Tufts European Horizons for a discussion on the dynamics of Muslim immigration in the European Union.

From Pandemics to Poverty: The Implications for Corona Virus for the Furthest Behind

Join European Horizons for a discussion about the impact of COVID-19 on inequality and global poverty.  

According to the World Bank, COVID-19 is likely to cause the first increase in global poverty since 1998. These projections have led to widespread calls for deep socio-economic reform. 

During our discussion, we will consider how the pandemic has altered public opinion regarding healthcare and wealth inequality. We will also discuss how governments can mitigate the economic consequences of the pandemic.

Join European Horizons for our Fall GIM on Monday, September 21 at 7:00 PM EDT! European Horizons hosts biweekly discussions about European affairs and the transatlantic alliance. We have previously hosted discussions on the Green New Deal, the refugee crisis, cybersecurity, energy security, the Iran Nuclear Deal.

This term our club will address topics related to structural inequalities in Europe and in the United States. For example, we will consider inclusion, race, diversity, and immigration within EU institutions and European society at large.

Tufts European Horizons: The European Green New Deal: The Solution for a Sustainable Future?

Tufts European Horizons will host a panel on the European Green New Deal. During her confirmation hearing by the European Parliament, incoming European Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen promised to put in a place a “European Green New Deal” within her first 100 days in office. This promise helped her narrowly obtain confirmation with the support of Green and Socialist members of parliament. This plan seeks to implement many of the same ideas put forward by the Green New Deal in the US Congress.

In the age of big data, concerns regarding privacy, corporate responsibility and cybersecurity are on the rise. Consumers often wonder what companies such as Google and Facebook know about them, and who else can access their personal data.

The European Union has become an international leader in addressing these concerns. The GDPR came into force in 2018 and ensured that individuals’ data would only be processed with their consent.

European Horizons Discussion- Refugee Crisis in Europe

Join Tufts European Horizons in discussing the legacy of the European refugee crisis on Thursday, October 17th at 6pm in Olin 011.
