MERG Discussion: Blackness in MENA

Social upheaval and the Black Lives Matter movement in the United States invariably spread to almost every part of the world. While many in the MENA region expressed their support for the Black Lives Matter movement in America, it was followed by reckoning in terms of attitudes towards blackness and black bodies in the Middle East and North Africa Region. Join MERG as we discuss how blackness has been historically and recently perceived in the region, as well as some of the barriers for equal treatment that black people face in the region and how people are trying to make progress towards racial equality.
