On January 23, 2022, Burkina Faso became the fourth country in West Africa to experience a military coup. The coup came after years of civilian and military discontent with President Kaboré’s political stewardship. However, the country has a strong legacy of resistance and revolution as a former French colony. What can we learn about authoritarianism and grassroots-level mobilization from Burkina Faso’s turbulent political history? Join ALLIES this Wednesday, March 30th at 8 PM in Eaton Hall 206 to discuss these questions and more! As always no prior experience is necessary and background readings will be provided at the event.
