Tufts’ South Asian Political Action Committee (SAPAC) invites you to join us for the inaugural event of the Tufts Kashmir Initiative!
In the spirit of other on-campus protests that have called attention to underrepresented issues through “teach-ins” and “sit-ins,” we present a “camp-in” to honor the incredible courage of the thousands of Kashmiris who were trapped for endless days and nights on rooftops awaiting rescue. This event is an incredible opportunity for all to learn about the historical, literary, and cultural traditions of the “highest battleground on earth.”
- Write postcards to Kashmiri youth
- Take a guided historical tour of Kashmir and learn about the sociocultural impacts of the floods
- Participate in a candlelit vigil in solidarity with the 1.5 million people affected
- Commemorate Kashmir’s most prominent artists through live poetry recitals in Urdu and English
All are encouraged to attend any portion of the event; attendees are further invited to join SAPAC’s Executive Board members, all of whom will remain camped out on Tisch roof all night. Although no demonstration can ever convey the terror and uncertainty felt by the Kashmiris who left their lives behind, we hope that our presence will raise awareness of their ordeal.
