The Scheherazade Initiative: Celebrating the Resilience of Women and Girls in the Face of Violence

Date & Time October 19, 2015 8:00pm
Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall

The Institute, for the third year, is co-sponsoring this benefit concert organized by Music for Life International and featuring Scheherazade-inspired works by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Maurice Ravel led by the Indian conductor George Mathew.  This year's concert will benefit the United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women.  Ms. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, the Fund's Executive Director and the Under-Secretary-General for Women at the United Nations, will deliver the opening remarks.

As part of this co-sponsorship, we have a number of complimentary tickets to the October 19 concert.  It begins at 8:00pm in the Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage.

We would like to make these tickets available to you.  Please email and let us know how many tickets you would like (limit of 4 per person).  We have 75 to distribute.

Our last collaboration with Music for Life International was when we helped them to sponsor a music residency in the Za'atari Refugee Camp in Jordan.   Just last month, George Mathew wrote to Sherman:

"How time flies! It was exactly one year ago that we returned from Za'atari after a wonderful week there with Questscope, thanks to IGL and you. We have been sharing this on our social media this week and wanted to loop you in. Thank you again for introducing us to Questscope and for the support that made this astonishing visit possible. We are now laying the foundations for a return to Za'atari in January 2016.

All very warmest, George"
