Antonella Fauro Aguirre
Universidad de San Andrés
Antonella is currently an undergraduate student of Business Administration in Universidad de San Andrés (UdeSA) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She would like to work in the public sector in the future, and believes that good and strong relations between countries’ international companies are a key component for mutually beneficial growth . She thinks that in today’s globally connected world, migration is an exceptionally relevant topic and that the intertwining of cultures enriches any parties involved. In the past, she has participated in other international programs with the aim of mingling with people from other parts of the world and learning. She is looking forward to be joining 2019’s EPIIC Symposium so as to learn as much as possible, but also to make new friends.

Carla Ambrosano
Universidad de San Andrés
Carla Ambrosano is an Argentine undergraduate student of Economics at Universidad de San Andrés (UdeSA) in Buenos Aires. She also works in the University’s Sports Office and used to work in the International Programs Office as part of her work-study program. During her time in UdeSA, she has done volunteer work for the annual fundraising event of the University in 2017; in the same year, she has also helped to organize an event for the department of Economics which invited graduates to speak about thier professional careers. Additionally, she has done volunteer work in the LACEA-LAMES event hosted by UdeSA in 2017. She has recently been awarded with an Erasmus grant to study abroad at The University of Edinburgh in Scotland. She intends to focus her studies in two areas: one with a monetary emphasis and the other with social policy efficiency. She expects to be able to apply her life-learning experiences and the tools gained during her superior studies in her home country.

Maria Rosa Biagosch

María Rosa Biagosch is an undergraduate student of International Relations at Universidad de San Andrés, Argentina. She has completed an exchange program at Universität St. Gallen, Switzerland, in 2018, where she has deepened her interest in humanitarian crisis, international conflict resolutions and human and humanitarian rights. By particapting, she hopes to learn about diversity and sharing cultures through her interactions with people from different parts of the world. She is actively volunteering in Argentina, where she helps to manage poverty and education issues, specifically with children. In addition, she is passionate about music, art, traveling and writing. Through this experience, she is willing to get involved in interesting discussions and improve her knowledge and awareness about the topics.

Juan Francisco Fernandez

Juan Francisco grew up in the northeast part of Argentina. After an exchange year in British Columbia, Canada, he decided to study International Relations at Universidad de San Andrès, Buenos Aires. Juan is currently on the third year of his undergraduate degree. What amazes him the most is the cultural aspect of socities, how they organize themselves and how they cope with their issues. Having attended many conferences on migration and development, such as T20 that took place in Buenos Aires last year, he focuses on the regional migrational crisis in South America: Venezuela. Juan’s main interests in the firld of IR are security and regional integration.

Federico Gaston Gonzalez

Federico is an undergraduate student of International Relations at Universidad de San Andrés, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Since 2016 he has been involved in various roles: in an initiative called Politeia; first as Model UN Coordinator, then as Chief Coordinator and now as Conference Coordinator. In doing Politeia, he learned about domestic and international politics while planning and organizing events such as UN Models, academic talks, and an interdisciplinary conference where senior researchers and prominent figures of the domestic politics of Argentina gather to discuss about different issues. Currently he works as a research assistant for a professor of the Department of Social Sciences at San Andrés, his main research topics are the Internet and the process of multi stakeholder governance. He also collaborates in research about drones and autonomous weapons at the Asociación Para Políticas Públicas. His main interests are foreign policy, economics, quantitative analysis, human rights and democracy.

Juan Agustín Segovia
Universidad de San Andrés
Juan Is a third year undergraduate student of International Relations at San Andres University. In accordance with the mission of the University, his main goal is to be able to implement his knowledge in order to improve the quality of the Argentine society. Through the recent years he has been part of the Argentine Debating Organization (ADA). His participation in the ADA taught him how to communicate and defend an idea. Then, as a judge in the program he learned how to coach other people so they can address different topics . Also, he has been a volunteer at the “Center for the Opening and Development of Latin America” (CADAL), Where he carried out a follow up and an analysis of the violation of human rights in Eastern Europe.

 

Brazil

 

Rafael Brotherhood
Universidade Federal de Pernambuco
Rafael Brotherhood is a Law student at the Federal University of Pernambuco. Born in Recife, Brazil, he had the opportunity to improve his studies on International Law and International Relations at the University of Hamburg, Germany. Currently working in a Law firm, he dreams of working with humanitarian aid, such as Sergio Vieira de Mello at the UNHCR. After living in Germany, Rafael decided to create a social project called “OFICINA RE-EDUCAR” to teach underprivileged children about the importance of recycling. With a great passion for learning, he developed a deep interest in studying economics, politics and law. In his free time, he likes to watch movies, play soccer and hang out with friends. Rafael hopes that EPIIC will be a great moment of personal growth, in which he will be able to expand his knowledge, in a multicultural environment, in order to apply it in his professional life in the future.

Lucca Lopes Monteiro da Fonseca
Universidade de São Paulo
Lucca Lopes Monteiro da Fonseca studies Law at the University of São Paulo, but believes that a comprehensive education is multidisciplinary. That is why Lucca tries to participate in all kinds of activities. He has a special interest in public, international and financial Law. In addition, he aims to understand the essential matters regarding the State and government, such as education, national defense and foreign affairs. He loves debating and believes in the power of the words to change reality.

Italo Martins
Universidade de São Paulo
Italo Martins studies Law at the University of São Paulo and has represented it at moots, both domestic and international. He has a particular interest in arbitration, corporate law, international commerce and investment. Nonetheless, appreciates themes of foreign affairs and public policy as he hopes to become a politician in the future. In his view, all subjects can and should be debated, something he does with noteworthy dedication and excitement.

Sofia Martins
Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerias and Universidade FUMEC
Sofia Martins is in her last year of her undergraduate degree in International Relations at Pontíficia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. She is also doing an undergraduate degree in Law at the Universidade FUMEC where she is currently working on a research that analyses the concept of law and justice in the communities of Brazil. Her major subject of interest is in security and terrorism which is why she is developing her studies in this area. For extracurricular activities, Sofia was approved as one of the 45 students of Brazil to present a project on the Brazilian security for the Ministry of Defense. She is also studying German. Sofia is looking forward to all the discussions and hopes that everything she has learned thus far on security can contribute to the discussion at this year’s symposium. She is also to excited to learn more from this experience.

Danilo Caíque Prates Pereira

Danilo Prates is an internationalist living in Salvador, Brazil, and is currently a Fraud and Risk Consultant at Deloitte, where he analyzes reports, classifies risks and starts investigation process of corporate reports. He has a huge interest in compliance and anti-corruption cases, engaging heavily in ethical and moral issues. As someone who wants to make difference, Danilo has taught workshops on integrity programs in Brazil and Argentina and he has been engaged in reviews of many Ethics Codes, believing that it is from this that development and peace will come. He hopes to become a leading figure on the international scene on issues of law enforcement and international conflict resolution, such as the sensitive issue of the migratory crisis. Danilo hopes to contribute with his legal vision, acquired in legal studies at the National University of Rosario, Argentina, added to his peaceful nature, which always seeks the consensus and combination of diverse interests.

Gabriel Santiago
Centro Universitário Jorge Amado
Gabriel Santiago is an International Relations undergraduate student, based in Salvador, Brazil, and is currently an intern at the Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil in Salvador –EREBAHIA. With an immense interest for Brazilian geopolitics and grand strategy, Santiago has been studying the topics and producing articles that have been presented in different conferences. As someone who is always looking forward to debating and discussing solutions for the most relevant topics of the international agenda, Gabriel has participated in various conferences and simulations, including the one held by the United Nations in its headquarters in New York City –WIMUN 2017– where he contributed to find effective ways to combat trafficking of people. As a volunteer, he has worked in different projects in Brazil for over three years; he also lived in Mexico for 3 months as a volunteer. Gabriel wants to represent Brazil as a diplomat in the future, believing that international cooperation, when based on the principles of sovereignty and independence, can contribute for the development of all countries, including his own. Therefore, the EPIIC Symposium will certainly be a great opportunity to debate issues that are crucial for the international society at the highest level, allowing the ones who will be joining it to open their minds for different perspectives.

Lucas Martins da Silva

Lucas Martins is a Brazilian undergraduate student at UFMG who intends to double major in Law and Economics. His interests vary from history, private law, economics and development theory to international relations. Lucas aims to understand the institutional and social complexity of international system to promote the benefits of freer trades, freer borders and better protected civil rights in Brazil and worldwide.

Raíssa Silviera
Universidade Federal de Pernambuco
Raíssa is an International Relations Analyst, Political Science Master’s student and a senior student of Political Science. She is one of the few Brazilians that research about antisemitism and Middle Eastern Studies, in which she focuses on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Her interest has taken her to live on the occupied territories and deeply engage with the people. As a former intern at the Human Rights Division of the Ministry of Foreign Relations, she is passionate about diplomacy. In addition, she has worked as a Human Rights advocate for refugees and is one of the authors of the book ‘Refugees in Brazil’. She loves learning languages and can currently speak five, but she looks forward to learning Arabic. She believes in the power of transformation and dedicates her life to helping others and promoting debate about relevant social issues in the Christian community. In her free time, she is a Crossfit athlete and addicted to singing and traveling.

 

Canada: University of Alberta

 

Neslihan Akpinar
University of Alberta
Neslihan is a first-year PhD student in the Department of Political Science at the University of Alberta. Her specializations are in Gender Politics and Comparative Politics, specifically in the context of multicultural education. She holds an MA degree in Political Studies from Istanbul Technical University and a BA degree in Sociology from Marmara University in Turkey. Her Master’s thesis examined the role of migration and politics on religious conversion of some members of heterodox communities in Turkey. She has participated in several volunteer projects related to the youth. She professionally worked as a sociologist in the municipality and then moved to work at a NGO which dealth with religious communities. Afterwards, she worked as a full-time research assistant at Munzur University in Turkey. During that time, she has been awarded both by the Republic of Turkey, Ministry of National Education and the University of Alberta for pursuing a PhD. Currently, Neslihan has been studying and also working as a teaching assistant in her department. She is excited to participate in EPIIC symposium and is looking forward to exploring new experiences and contributing.

Brittany Boyko
University of Alberta
Brittany is currently in her fourth year at the University of Alberta pursuing an undergraduate degree in Latin American Studies. Along with her degree she is completing certificates in Translation studies (with a concentration in Spanish), International Learning and Leadership Studies.Brittany has been an exchange student at the Universidad de Oriente in Santiago de Cuba where she has presented her research at the Universidad de Oriente seminario de studios canadenses (the University of Oriente’s Canadian Studies Conference) in both the 2017 and 2018 academic year. Previously, Brittany has represented the University of Alberta at National Model United Nations In New York City. Through Brittany’s involvement in the Peter Lougheed Leadership College she has been involved with The Connect Society in Edmonton and the Instituto Especial de Maria Jesus in Ecuador, volunteering with deaf and hard of hearing children and youth. Her academic interests include Latin America, social movements, gender studies, exclusion politics as well as issues of social inequality. She hopes to discuss the social, economic and political difficulties around migration with the TILIP class of 2019.

Nariya Khasanova
University of Alberta
Nariya Khasanova is a PhD student in the Department of Political Science at the University of Alberta. Nariya’s research aims to answer how intersecting identities of immigrant women shape their integration experiences in a comparative urban context. Passionate about migration studies, Nariya was recently involved as a research assistant in the SHHRC-funded project examining the transition challenges faced by temporary foreign workers in Canada. Prior to coming to the University of Alberta, Nariya completed her Master’s degree in Sustainable Urban Governance and Peace at the UN Mandated University for Peace. Nariya was also a visiting scholar at George Washington University, project officer at United Nations Association in Canada, and an active volunteer and human rights activist at John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights, the organization that brought back her voice, confidence and inspired her willingness to drive the change she wanted to see as an immigrant woman whose belonging was contested. Interested in human development, Nariya served as an intern at national and regional UNDP offices in Uzbekistan and Bratislava, shortly after completing her undergraduate studies at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy in Tashkent. Nariya is also a new mother, passionate facilitator, poet, and dancer. She loves traveling and embracing new cultures. She is looking forward to engaging in a meaningful discussion on migration in a turbulent world.

Shuaa Rizvi
University of Alberta
Shuaa Rizvi is in her last year of a Bachelor of Sciences degree at the University of Alberta, majoring in Biological Sciences with a minor in Psychology. Shuaa is also pursuing a certificate in interdisciplinary leadership through the Peter Lougheed Leadership College. She has keen interests in sports, STEM and politics. She is passionately involved with TeamUP Science which works hard to provide scientific programming to high school and junior high students, and she is also a councillor representing the Faculty of Science for the students' union. Previously, Shuaa volunteered with the Alberta Ministry for the Status of Women as part of her Stretch Project with the Leadership College. She is excited to attend the EPIIC symposium.

 

Canada: University of Ottawa

 

Rebecca Dickey
University of Ottawa
Rebecca Dickey is a second-year law student at the University of Ottawa in Ottawa, Canada. She is employed as a Student Research Fellow and Research Coordinator at the Refugee Hub, an organization operating out of the University of Ottawa that engages with both domestic and international refugee policy. Rebecca also holds an Honours Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Criminology from the University of Toronto. As a law student, Rebecca has dedicated her time to the intersection of international human rights law and migration law, working on projects with the Refugee Hub, Department of Justice Canada -International Development Section, and the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Adequate Housing. She also enjoys hiking, coffee-shop hopping, and traveling in her free time.

Mari Galloway
University of Ottawa
Mari Galloway is currently in her third year of law school at the University of Ottawa where she has focused on gaining experience across a broad spectrum of the law. In her first year, she specialized in the Indigenous law stream, and has since worked as a research assistant in the fields of copyright, environmental and refugee law. Prior to attending law school she earned a master's degree in Environmental Policy and Planning from the Freie Universität Berlin, and a bachelor's in Political Science from McGill University. She is very excited to participate in the symposium and engage with students from around the world on the multidimensional aspects of migration.

Sarah Mack
University of Ottawa
Sarah is completing her final year of law at the University of Ottawa. During law school, Sarah reviewed human rights cases for the National Council of Canadian Muslims, worked as a research assistant with the Refugee Hub, and as a program coordinator for a non-profit organization promoting access to justice. Sarah also studied international and civil law in the UK and Austria as an exchange student. She enjoys travelling and has visited nearly thirty countries to date. During her first international symposium, Sarah looks forward to engaging in a global exchange of knowledge with fellow legal professionals.

Mo Chen
Peking University
Ted CHEN is a Peking University senior studying Philosophy. Passionate about intercultural communication, Chen holds a long track record of overseeing multi-national youth-empowerment initiatives and has a travelled-country count at 17. Currently a senior executive of SICA, PKU's premium club promoting global awareness, he has joined the delegation of several governmental youth exchanges within Asia-Africa, been selected as the youngest language partner of Stanford Oversea Study Program at Peking University, and co-founded InterACT, a corporate-governance research program sitting Chinese and French students from PKU and MINES ParisTech at the same table. The magnification of public benefit is within Chen’s pursuits always. The Original Mind, an annual magazine distributed for free by the number of thousands at K12 institutions, is a Chen’s initiative. He is also the founder of the Symposium for Advocating Global Education (SAGE), an NGO promoting awareness in pedagogical innovation by utilizing the growing abundance of Chinese oversea students. Chen has previously interned at Tencent Investment, Strategy & PwC, ETU School & Air Liquide, and is now a proud Ed Tech entrepreneur catering to lower-tier Chinese cities. In his spare time, he watches a ton of musicaltheatre and publishes movie critiques.

Kangkyu Lee
Peking University
Kangkyu (David) Lee was born in Seoul, South Korea and currently lives in New York where he works as a Domain Expert at Dataminr. He recently graduated from Georgetown University with an M.A. in Asian Studies and an A.B in International Affairs from the University of Georgia magna cum laude. Kangkyu also studied as a government-funded JASSO Fellow to conduct research on Japanese foreign policy and domestic politics as an exchange student at Osaka University—here he worked as a teaching and research assistant to Dr. Yoneyuki Sugita. Within the Politics and International Relations concentration, he hopes to utilize his experience working at Washington D.C-based think tanks to investigate the normative role of political psychology, technology, and public opinion on Chinese elite-behavior to brainstorm solutions for contemporary China-IR issues, such as the Thucydides Trap. Kangkyu is a self-professed aficionado of Chinese martial arts films and is enthralled by Chinese urbanization.

Zi Xin Lee
Peking University
ZiXin Lee obtained her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and is currently studying Finance at Peking University. Lee has long been passionate about ASEAN. She pursued Southeast Asia area studies and Malay language studies for 6 years before being awarded the inaugural Lee Hsien Loong Bicultural Award (Malay). Since then, she further developed an interest in US-China relations, serving as a Research and Service Fellow at the Penn Center for Study of Contemporary China. Her thesis received the Leo S. Rowe Prize, awarded for best undergraduate thesis in International Relations/ Comparative Politics. The thesis examined how secondary powers like Singapore, South Korea and Australia hedge between the United States and China. Lee previously interned at ChinaPolicy, the US National Center for Homelessness among Veterans, the Singapore Embassy in Cambodia, and also served a Chinese state agency client at Monitor Deloitte. She is slated to return to work in the Singapore government full-time after graduation. In her work, she hopes to further ASEAN’s economic integration, Singapore-China relations and also promote economic globalization and sustainable development.

Mengze Li
Peking University
MengzeLi is an undergraduate student at Peking University, majoring in Chinese Modern History, mainly from the opium war to May Fourth Movement and double majoring in Economics. She has been actively involved in various kinds of educational activities that devote to promoting balanced development of urban and rural education in China. As she is very concerned about issues on Chinese education, she served as a curriculum design intern in PEER, an NGO in China and worked as a voluntary teacher in Guangxi Province,China and Kathmandu, Nepal. After coming back from Nepal, she worked as a research assistant in Lab for Lifelong Learning Tsinghua University, assisting to launch STEAM teaching for kids in primary school. She is working as a research assistant in the Graduate School of Education of Peking University. At the same time, she is also an ambitious researcher. She was involved in a study of gender, occupation and population in Qing Dynasty, which is organized by Oxford University. She participated in the Undergraduate Research Program launched by Peking University and got support from JunZheng Fund. She is a member of On Road to China Program held by Standford Center at Peking University. Her rich practical experience and solid academic training enable her to think comprehensively and profoundly. She is also a travel enthusiast and love to read different kinds of books in her free time.

Xuelai Li
Peking University
Xuelai(Sally) Li is a junior student at Peking University with a major in Finance and minor in Computer Science. She has completed internships across consulting, banking and sales & trading before finally confirming her interest in research. Sally is interestedin how international relations can impact and shape the world's economies. Having finished an exchange semester at the University of Hong Kong within the Department of Mathematics and a summer session at Columbia University, she is currently a research assistant at the Institute of New Structural Economics (INSE) and is involved in two industrial restructuring projects. With spontaneous philosophical thinking, she wants to pursue a PhD in Macroeconomics and help change the world to make it a better place. Outside the classroom, Sally is engaged in a variety of international communication activities and plays an important role in them. She enjoys making friends with people from different backgrounds and exchanging views about the world. She has been to more than 15 countries and is going to explore more in the future. Sally is excited to be a part of EPIIC and hopes to have a rewarding experience there.

Jianzhang Lu
Peking University
Jianzhangis currently a second-year undergraduate student majoring in Japanese and International Studies at Peking University. Having spent 2 years of his childhood in Manhattan, New York, he has an immense interest in discovering more about the global community and wishes to take up a future academic path focusing on East Asia’s complex and intriguing international relations. He has also been an active member of Peking University’s international social clubs, namely SICA and Asian International Model United Nations, with an experience of designing and directing a model UN committee. Jianzhang is experienced when it comes to international communication, having been to the U.S. and Germany on high school study tours; while having served as a delegate in JING Forum 2018, an academic and communication platform linking Peking University and the University of Tokyo. He is expecting to study at Japan’s Waseda University during his third year. At the same time, he holds great passion for volunteer activities, having volunteered as a tutor at Beijing’s Dandelion School for migrant workers’ children, while also working as a volunteer for Peking University’s admission office. Jianzhang believes mutual understanding is vital in the age of globalization and has a keen interest regarding nationalism in East Asian countries. He is very excited to engage in discussions with fellow excellent representatives of EPIIC at Tufts.

Yiqing Wang
Peking University
YiqingWang is a senior undergraduate student at Peking University, majoring in International Economics and Trade. Passionate about intercultural communication, her experiences include volunteer teaching in rural area of Taiwan, presenting at the Cross-strait Youth Forum, and a member of the Asia Future Fellow Program in Griffith University, Australia. Yiqing is currently an investment banking intern at Huatai United Securities, her previous internship experience also covers venture capital, consulting and industrial research, providing her with an in-depth understanding of Chinese capital market. Writing is also one of Yiqing’s biggest strength and hobby. She served as a former editor in chief of PKU Press Corps of Office of International Relations. At the moment, she also works as a part-time writer for China Business News in fashion column. Highly interested in various social topics, Yiqing has been actively involved with campus activities, mainly as a former group leader of Lean In PKU, an organization aiming to promote the status of women in the working field. She is also an active runner and enjoys exercising on a daily basis.

Danni Yang
Peking University
Danni is a graduate student from School of International Studies, Peking University, China, where she is pursuing a degree in International Politics, with a concentration in East Asia Studies. She is a member of “Campus Asia” program, spending her graduatestudy in Beijing, Tokyo and Seoul. She also holds aMaster’s degree of Public Policy from University of Tokyo, focusing on Development issues. She pursued Bachelor of International Political Economics and History from Peking University. She is interested in how economic cooperation and competition influence the relationship among East Asia countries. Danni is curious about the world and she is eager to communicate with people from different cultures. She gained valuable experience in interning as journalist and research assistant of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation. She loves reading, making plans for trips as well as travelling. She is glad to join EPIIC again and feel honored to share ideas with excellent representatives of EPIIC at Tufts.

Inès Ayyadi
Sciences Po Toulouse
Inès Ayyadiis enrolled in the International Relations and Crisis Management Master’s program at Sciences Po Toulouse. She has a deep interest in geopolitics and wants to focus on European Union security policies and the process of labelling a phenomenon as an issue.EPIIC represents an outstanding opportunity to broaden her knowledge about migration beyond European borders. She looksforward to debating with students from various backgrounds as well as learning from this experience. Outside of her studies, Inèsworks as a volunteer for organizations such as the Human Rights League and has been involved in several COP simulations which has given her a greater awareness of the importance of cooperation in bringing a solution to specific issues.

Antoine Boucharenc
Sciences Po Toulouse
Antoine Boucharenc is a 22-year-old French student who grew up in southwestern France. He is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in International Relatons at Sciences Po Toulouse, a French Political Studies Institute. He is specializing in international crisis management and migration phenomena, particularly in East Africa and the Middle East. Fascinated by anthropology, sociology, but also geography and history, he critiques and focuses his research on the processes of Western ethnocentrism, post-colonialism, and on the issues emanating from state-building. He also has a versatile profile, including a 2-year intensive literary foundation degree, and a double degree from the Toulouse Business School, where he obtained a Master's degree in Strategy and Consulting last year. Very curious and talkative, always full of enthusiasm, Antoine is very sporty, having been a former young top-level rugby athlete. He speaks French, English and Spanish. He lived in Barcelona for 6 months as part ofhis studies last year, and he is always ready to travel. Antoine seeks to enhance his knowledge on international migration during this symposium, by meeting specialists from all over the world who are directly confronted with these issues.

Leïla Antier Cárdenas

Leila is a Master’s student studying International Relations at Sciences Po Toulouse in the South of France. Her dual nationality-French and Mexican-has proven to be a valuable asset. Since a very young age, Leila has shown great interest in other cultures. She was raised by both of her parents to be a citizen of the world and to accept difference as well as to adapt to different contexts. She hopes to pursue an international career in human rights or dealing with environmental issues. Her university coursework has led her to do different internships in Asia in the human rights field. If she had to define herself, it would be as a utopist in need of fulfilling her purpose in life: working for and giving to the more vulnerable, as well as supporting, promoting and being part of environmental initiatives. Lorraine Gruber

Lorraine is a fourth-year student at the Institute of Political Sciences ofToulouse, in France. She is currently doing her Master’s in InternationalRelations and Crisis Management. During the 2017-2018 academicyear, she went onan exchange program: during the frst semester, shedid an internship in the Alliance Française in Italy (Turin), and in thesecond semester she participated in an Erasmus student exchange inthe Czech Republic (Prague). This exchange was an opportunity for herto study and observe the diversity of the world, but it also consolidatedher goal of pursuing a diplomatic career. Indeed, she wants to work inan international organization in order to participate in the managementand the resolution of international crisis. This is why she is interested inparticipating in the Symposium, and looks forward to discussing andconfronting her point of view with other participants.

Thomas Hortala

Thomas is a Master’s student at Sciences Po Toulouse in France. He is specializing in International Crisis Management and is currently working on a research project focusing on climate migration. He takes big issues like climate change and mass migration to heart and enjoys engaging with them both through his academic endeavors and his extra-curricular commitments. Traveling and studying abroad (in the United Kingdom and Germany) helped him develop an extended curiosity for other cultures and languages. He believes that everyone, especially those in the academic and political fields, would be considerably better off by exchanging with people outside of their national borders, as it is always an opportunity to question one’s certainties. In his free time, he enjoys playing the piano, listening to music and reading books.

Chloé Latronico

Chloé is in her fourth year at Sciences Po Toulouse in France and is studying International relations and crisis management. She is actively engaged in the fight for gender equality, intersectionality and human rights, believing that these are core problems in international dynamics and crises. Chloé intends to advocate for these matters and discuss how they are linked to migration. Thanks to her experience of studying abroad in Canada and Norway, she understands her belonging to a globalized youth that is growing across the globe whilst becoming a vector of change and hope. EPIIC would therefore be the opportunity for her to put into perspective different approaches to the phenomenon of migration thanks to the variety of participants. She is looking forward to meeting other students and exchanging diverse opinions.

Candice Leroy

Candice is currently undergoing her first year of a Master’s program in nternational Crisis Managementat Sciences Po Toulouse. Candice is passionate about human rights and social justice, and got involved during her year abroad with a Cypriot NGO providing legal aid to asylum seekers and migrant workers. She is currently volunteering fora French association which assists unrecognized migrant minors. She speaks French, English and Spanish, and loves travelling. She believes discovering new cultures and sharing with people is an opportunity to challenge her beliefs and enhance her knowledge about the world.

Léa Merville

Léa is a Master’sstudentat Sciences Po Toulouse in France. She is studying International Relations with a focus on crisis management. In 2017 she interned at the Middle East Forum in Philadelphia before participating in a seven-month student exchange program at Ben Gurion University of Be’er Sheva, in Israel. This combined experience provided her with knowledge on Israeli history as well as a more profound understanding of some political and environmental middle eastern issues. This year’s EPIIC topic seems to her extremely engaging as migration is an ongoing and urgent mater. She is eager to learn more about it from all the speakers and the participants and hopes to be able to bring her own perspective to the discussions.

Auriane Segol

Aurianeis in her fourth year at Sciences Po Toulouse in France. She is currently doing a Master’s degree in International Relations and Crisis Management. Last year (2017-2018), she participated in a two-semester exchange program, one at Tongji University in Shanghai (China) and the other at Universidad Nacional de La Plata (Argentina), both majoring in international relations. Her area of study, as well as the fact of living in such different countries, provided her with an awareness of the diversity and the complexity of the world that she is a part of. Moreover, it made her want to better acquaint herself with this world in order to play a role in it. Towards this end, she wants to become a lawyer specializing in international law. In order to achieve her ambition, she intends on doing another Master’s degree in International Law. She is indeed strongly guided by humanistic ideals as well as an aversion for injustice. Furthermore, she deeply considers that dialogue and the exchange of ideas and points of view are essential in order to see and understand all the perspectives in a situaton. This is what she seeks in participating in the 2019 EPIIC, and she hopes to have a truly rewarding experience.

Florine Taupin

Florine Taupin is a French student specializing in International Relations and Crisis Management, currently in her fourth year at Sciences Po Toulouse. She spent a year abroad in 2017/2018, attending both Dickinson College (Pennsylvania, USA) and the University of Nottingham in England. Through these academic exchanges, she has developed a strong interest in migration issues and has also experienced for herself the value of intercultural exchanges. In order to pursue this process of inter-cultural exchanges, Florine is currentlyworking at the Dickinson in France Center, where she is helping American students adapt to life in Toulouse. She also loves travelling, which makes her eager to return to the United States and meet students from all over the world to discuss migration and deepen her understanding ofthis topic.

Marie Vadronick

Marie is a Master’s student at Sciences Po Toulouse in France studying International Crisis Management. In particular, she has a great interest in the refugee crisis due to climate change and she is currently working on a research project focusing on UN policies regarding the situation of the displaced in the wake of natural disaster. As a member of UNICEF in Toulouse, she believes that the violation of migrant children’s rights is another important topic to discuss during this symposium. In her opinion, EPIIC will provide a great opportunity to put into practice her academic skillset, but above all to learn from other participants’ viewpoints related to international migrations. Marie has already had the chance to be involved in an international setting, first as an intern in the Canadian Parliament, and then as an exchange student at the University of Limerick in Ireland. She is looking forward to being a part of EPIIC and aspires to meet people from largely diverse nationalities and cultures. Marie enjoys reading, traveling and listening to music in her free time.

Aris Bilinis
Panteion University
Aris Biliniswas born and raised in Athens, Greece where he completed his bachelor’s degree studies in Media and Communication at the University of Athens. During his bachelor studies he spent two semesters in Austria and one in Lithuania through the Erasmus Exchange Programme. He then moved to Italy where he obtained his Master’s Degree in International Relations and Diplomatic Affairs at the University of Bologna. He spent one semester at Vassar College in the US as a Research Fellow where he also undertook his research on his master’s thesis. After his master’s graduation, he moved back to Greece where he continued his research mainly on the Balkans at various international relations institutes. Currently he is a PhD candidate at Panteion University of Athens. His main interests are International Policy and Security, and he has done an internship at the Greek Embassy in Rome. He’s fluent in English, Italian, and Spanish and loves playing the electric guitar as well as traditional Greek instruments.

Georgios Chamilakis

Georgios Chamilakis is a senior student in the Department of International, European and Area Studies of Panteion University in Athens. He has worked at the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has represented his University in International Moot Court Completions of International Law (Jessup). He is a research assistant at the Institute of International Relations (Greece), in the Crisis Management team where he is completing a 12 months research in the sino-american relations andwriting a thesis in the subject. He has the titles of Writer,Editor and Ambassador at Association of International and European Affairs, an independent, voluntary and zero-budget organization which gives students and young professionals the chance to write and publish articles and analyses in issues of International Relations. Moreover, he is an Analyst at the Center for International Strategic Analyses,a think-tank organization in Greece. Georgios speaks English and French, and is a volunteer in the Hellenic Red Cross. His interests include the research on International Relations Theory Foreign Policy Analysis, International Security, Crisis Management, and International Law.

Antonia Georgakopoulou

Antonia Georgakopoulou is an undergraduate student in the Department of Sociology at Panteion University of Athens. She is a research assistant at the Institute of International Relations in the team of Military History. She is also a researcher and writer at the Student Association for International Affairs (SAFIA) in the field of “Social and Humanitarian Issues”. She is a volunteer for the Hellenic Red Cross and she has participated in workshops that aim to eliminate phenomena such as racism, discrimination, sexism. She believes that migration topics should concern us all and that we should try to protect these individuals from the social exclusion and marginalization.

Maria Kokkali

Maria Kokkali is a fourth-year undergraduate student at the department of International, European, and Area Studies at Panteion University of Athens, Greece. Within the university curriculum, she is also taking International Law courses, among which she has expressed a special interest in International Humanitarian Law. As an international affairs student, she has participated in United Nations Simulations in Greece and has also worked as an intern at the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As extracurricular activities, she is currently studying French and Spanish whilst having participated in seminars to further expand her knowledge in the department. In addition to her studies, Maria has participated in the Erasmus + Exchange Program, where she focused on migration issues. Petros is an undergraduate student in his final year of International, European, and Area Studies at the PanteionUniversity. He is a graduate from the National Technical University of Athens with a degree in mechanical engineering and also holds a MBA from the Athens Laboratory of Business Administration. He is specializing in International Economics and is particularly interested in getting a better knowledge of the forces that shape the global economic environment. Migration, apart from the societal and cultural reshuffling it brings, also acts as a formation agent for the labour markets that he finds most interesting and he is looking forward to learning more about it at the EPIIC symposium.

Mayah Rachel Golan

Mayahis a second year student at Haifa University studying Nursing. She grew up in a Moshav in the North of Israel. Before enlistment in the army, she worked in the youth movement and was the senior youth leader for her Moshav. She was drawn to nursing as sheloves working with people and believes that this career will allow her to help people at their most vulnerable. She passionately believes thatevery citizen should take part in working together for the good of the country, be it by army service, through their job or in the voluntary sector. The subject of this year's particularly interesting to Mayah as she strongly believes that the way must be found to assist migrants and enable them to become active members of their new community whilst preserving their dignity and traditions.

Hila is a second-year bachelor degree student of Social Work. She decided to pursue this field because she believes that every human being deserves equal opportunities. Hila has been guiding and leading informal group processes since the age of 16, she loves working with youth and finds that education (both formal and informal) is the best tool we can use in order to create societal change. Nowadays Hila is a research assistant at the School of Social Work for a research about Cultural Sensitivity in Social Policy Practice.

Lauren Khizran

Lauren is a bachelor student in Geography and Human Services. Lauren was born in the village of Yirka, a Druze village in the north. Despite the difficulties in departing to University for studies, as a woman in a traditional society, Lauren succeeded in her studies and graduated with honors. Prior to her university studies, Loren volunteered at "Latet", which provides aid to people living in poverty and exclusion. Some of Lauren's areas of interest, like the conference, are activities and assistance for refugees and immigrants. In the future, Lauren hopes to establish an association that will help women and girls realize their rights and advance their status (Arab and Jewish women alike).

She started her involvement in Migration topic on her first year of Bachelor degree in MGIMO University. She knows how important such subject as migration turbulence can be in terms of connecting people with the same interests and bringing together professors from all over the world to provide different perspectives on several issues. Interested in international migration processes and modern trends in migration, she hopes to learn more in this Symposium about the process of turbulence in International migration and the changing dynamics of the migration in modern world. Denis Korolev

Denis Korolev was born in Moscow, Russia. Last year he graduated from the MGIMO University and Received a bachelor degree in advertisingand public relations. This year Dennis enrolled in the double-degree masters program, which is implemented by the MGIMO University in collaboration with the University of Reading, England. At the moment Denis is studying governance and international relations at the MGIMO University and next year he is going to study international security at the University of Reading. Besides education, Denis is also actively involved in various student organizations. In total, he took part in holding more than 20 events at the university, which have become one of the major events of those years. Also, Denis was the head of the PR-department of the Student Academic Society for 2 years. Apart from that, Denis had internships in a number of companies which include popular TVchannels, PR-agencies, and even Russian Ministry of Defense. Among the subjects Denis is learning how a significance place is taken by international migration. Denis believes that issues correlated with migration will play an increasingly important role in international relations in the nearest future. That is why he finds it so vital to bring together people from different cultural backgrounds and share opinions with each other. Denis is eager to accumulate all his knowledge and experience in order to contribute to the conference.

Julia Melnikova

Julia is a first year Master’s student at MGIMO-University, majoring in global politics and political analyses. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in international relations at the same university. Her prior research was dedicated to the issues of world order, megatrends in global politics and U.S.-Russia relations, which she is currently concentrated on as well. Julia considers global thinking useful as it helps to understand how the world works and find the way to either adjust to its rules or reform them, being aware of underlying processes. As a firm believer that interpersonal relations are above all else, she seeks to communicate with people all over the world and is excited to join TILIP 2019. Julia speaks English and German and is currently learning Italian.

Vladimir Shcherbunov

Vladimir is a second-year master’s student at Moscow State Institute of International Relations majoring in World Politics. His academic interests are primarily focused on the issues of forced migration, with the European migration crisis of 2014-2015 being his specialization. In 2017-2018 he has been actively participating in a number of domestic and international scientific activities, including the international scientific forum “Migration Bridges in Eurasia" as well as the internship in the Mahidol University of Bangkok on to the issues of irregular migration in South-East Asia. His other interests include the history of the twentieth century. Remembering the bitter lessons of the past he considers as an essential element for fostering international cooperation in today’s fragile world. Vasily Kuzmin

Vasilyis a fourth-year student at the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA), majoring in Regional Studies and Political Analysis. His academic interests include political science, migration as a social phenomenon, and education. Based on these interests, he participated in two internships: at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands focused on Political Ethics, and at Coventry University in the UK focused on Social Sciences. Also he had an internship at the Fund of Russian Historical Society where he was working on media representation of various cultural projects. Besides this, he is interested in art history and travelling. For Vasily EPIIC is a great opportunity to be a part of an international passionate team involved in the development of relevant ways of solving complex global problems.

Alina Petrova

Alina is a senior student of a Global Policy joint program realized by the Russian Academy of National Economy and Political Administration (RANEPA), Moscow School of Economic and Social Sciences (MSSES) and the University of Manchester. She specializes in international relations and has a special interest in political philosophy. Alina’s course papers are dedicated to the issues of national identity, migrant integration policies and the European sanctions aftermath for Russia. Her graduation paper covers a topic of identity construction in Russia during the 3d presidential term of Vladimir Putin. Alina has participated in several conferences as a speaker and promotes science among the undergraduate students of MSSES. Being fluent in English, Alina took up learning French as her second language and has been on international internships to the UK and France. Apart from her studies, she volunteersas a teacher at the Russian NGO “Takiye zhe deti” (“The same kids”) that helps children of migrants and refugees to assimilate. Alina is a diligent and hard-working student who plans to continue her studies on a master program next year after graduation and seeks every opportunity to broaden her knowledge horizon. She hopes EPIIC will be a new step in her academic experience.

Elena Selivanova

Elena is a third-year undergraduate student of the Liberal Arts College, majoring in Psychology with a minor in New Research of Modern Culture.She has a keen interest in how different stereotypes (including gender and ethno-cultural stereotypes) arise, what are the mechanisms of the formation of such kind of stereotypes and why do people attribute one traits to one gender/culture and other to another. Last year she conducted a research in the field or gender stereotypes and the personality success evaluation. This year her academic interests include ethno-cultural stereotypes in modern world. Knowledge of several languages (advanced English and Spanish, intermediate German) allows her to explore this unambiguous questions in the international context.Elena hopes to be able to contribute a psychological perspective to the discussions at EPIIC 2019. She also enjoys meeting and communicating with new people and hopes to have a rewarding experience at the EPIIC Symposium.

Amina Yusupova

Amina is a third-year undergraduate student of the Global Governance and Leadership program in RANEPA. She has a wide experience of participation in the international conferences. Amina presented her research paper in the UNIV congress in Rome, Italy. She won a scholarship and took part in the IDPPA conference and the student workshop in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In her recent research paper, Amina studied the migration crisis in Europe in the context of the changing European identity and participated with this work in the Liberal Education Student Conference in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Her research paper was noted by the organization committee and she was offered to publish it. Amina already has a publication in the scientific analytical journal included in the system of the Russian Science Citation Index. Her publication is devoted to the destruction of cultural heritage by ISIS. In her free time, Amina enjoys volunteering in the international events. This summer she was a part of Official Hospitality Programme of FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia. Her knowledge of English, French and German made a huge contribution to the work of official hospitality program team. In EPIIC Symposium, she is looking forward to engaging in the active discussion to get a fresh view on the topic of migration through the prism of the socio-political realities of various countries and strategizing the ideas that will have a world-wide impact.

Wenjie Cheah
National University of Singapore
Wenjie is a fourth-year undergraduate at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Faculty of Law, with a concurrent enrollment in the University Scholars Programme. His interests span across a wide range of policy issues including social inequality and the upholding of constitutional rights. He is a firm believer in an interdisciplinary approach to understanding issues, and has written previously on how the law can benefit from an understanding of other fields such as psychology and anthropology. A developing negotiator, he was part of the 1st-placed team in the inaugural ICC-Australia Commercial Mediation Competition 2017. Wenjie is also active outside of academics, and has held significant leadership roles as an elected President of the University Scholars Club, as well as a founding director of the Student Disciplinary Assistance Scheme-a volunteer project that provides legal assistance to students facing disciplinary proceedings in NUS. He is also an avid volleyball player and has represented NUS in varsity competitions. In his free time, Wenjie reads and loves to hold conversations with people. He is incredibly excited to learn from everyone else in EPIIC.

Roxanne Kwek Le An
National University of Singapore
Roxanne is a third-year undergraduate student of the National University of Singapore, majoring in Global Studies with a minor in Southeast Asian Studies. Bourdieu’s “scholarship with commitment” is a motto that resonates deeply with her. Her keen interest in community stewardship and social justice is evident in her work experience and passion projects. The civic work she has been involved in includes interning in the editorial arm of an education-based social enterprise that focuses on building up Singapore’s social and emotional capital and interning in the corporate giving arm of a non-profit organisation that aims to promote a giving culture in her country. She has also interned at the Ministry of Social and Family Development where her work was focused on the support of the homeless and spent her most recent summer at Singapore’s Public Service Division thinking of new ways to innovate and transform service design from a Whole-Of-Government perspective. Alongside these work experiences, she has helmed a range of initiatives in her community related to migrant workers, mental health and intergenerational bonding. In all the doing, she has discovered that a life well lived is a life that has served well. One day, she hopes that shewill be known not for what she did, but what and who she stood for. Most recently, she has been spending her weekends at foreign domestic worker hotspots in Singapore to understand the structural factors which contribute to their moneylending habits. She hopes that the conference will teach and inspire her to make more effective change for the often “invisible” and marginalised migrant worker population in Singapore. She is excited to make new friends and would love to have a conversation with you on the things that bring joy to your mind and your soul.

Kai Qia Koh

Kai Qian is a third-year student who is majoring in sociology at the National University of Singapore. She enjoys hearing from different perspectives on various issues and meeting passionate people. She believes that the best way to know about different cultures is by talking to the locals and has tried to immerse herself in other ways of life such as that of the indigenous people in Thailand and villagers in Malaysia. She is currently taking a sociology course on migration and hopes to bring with her a sociological perspective on the issue. She is looking forward to meeting people from diverse backgrounds and having fruitful discussions.

Suzuki Tomoe
National University of Singapore
Tomoe is a first-year law student at the National University of Singapore who is trying to take her work seriously without taking herself too seriously. She has been working with low-wage migrant workers for the past 2 years and counting as a volunteer for the Cuff Road Project (under Transient Workers Count Too). The Cuff Road Project is a programme that partners eateries in Little India to provide meals for workers who are unable to work due to their existing injury/salary claims with the Ministry of Manpower. Her duties have encompassed fundraising, case work, translation and half-jokingly chiding people for being late to dinner. She is also part of a group within NUS Law’s Pro Bono Group that works with Project X–an organisation that is working towards a fair and safe sex industry. Tomoe plans to complement her study of the law by learning more about computing, psychology, economics and public policy. She hopes to meet plenty of new people and their life stories, and that they’ll keep in touch after EPIIC. As part of remaining an actual human person, Tomoe occasionally attends trivia nights, pets a healthy number of cats every day and works part-time at a bar -just in case passing the bar doesn’t work out.

Manita Goh Liang Yi
National University of Singapore
Manita is a freshman at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore. She is majoring in History and intends to explore both the European and Asian aspects of the subject. She has a keen interest in the way international relations and societal cultures have evolved over time, and how the world we live in today came to be. In particular, she takes notice of how these changes have an impact on the lives of people and their relationships with each other. Due to her interest in people, Manita has had a wide array of experiences ranging from interning at the Singapore Prison Service and working on the rehabilitation of inmates to participating in community engagement activities in Cambodia and Indonesia. She enjoys dancing and singing in her free time and keeps up with her favourite superhero trivia under Marvel Entertainment and DC Comics. Manita hopes to contribute a historical perspective to the discussions at EPIIC and help create a holistic picture onthe issue from past to present.

He was previously been part of pro-bono student consulting groups such as Conjunct Consulting and 180 Degree Consulting, working with non-profit organisations to make an impact through skills-based volunteerism. He has a keen interest in understanding and exposing himself to the intricacies of policy-making, which led him to pursue internships at Singapore’s Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Social and Family Development to better understand how social and economic policies are formulated and implemented to tackle issues relating to inequality and population growth. In 2016, Edwin was involved in a field research trip to Malaysia to study the social and economic development of their New Villages to formulate community development solutions that would greatly aid the village in the long-term. Upon graduation, Edwin desires to pursue a career in the public service.
