This year for the ALLIES JRP we, along with the other the other ALLIES chapters, are coordinating a research project in Indonesia, with the aid of the Military Attaché for Indonesia. We have coordinated such projects in the past, the latest being in Turkey, and they have been very successful. This trip will most likely take place in early June and last around two weeks. We are looking to send three students, so please contact Manal Cheema at Manal.Cheema@tufts.edu if you are interested. It will be a great experience!
Since the 2001 No Child Left Behind Act, public high-schools across the nation have been legally obligated to open their directories to military recruiters--providing names, addresses, and telephone numbers that could potentially point the armed forces towards their next generation of soldiers. Some have decried this provision, calling it a violation of privacy and a tool too easily manipulated by over-zealous recruiters eager to fulfill mandated quotas.
Come hear how experienced ALLIES members have found internships in the past and their experiences in the workplace. Our panelists have interned at the Department of Defense, Department of State, various think tanks and NGOs, state government, Congress, and more.
The language of morality, justice, and values has accompanied America to war since 1776. Today, the US Navy’s new recruiting slogan is “A Global Force for Good.” These ideas are not unique to American culture. Almost every ethical system has attempted to integrate war with morality, from Christian and Islamic just war theory to modern secular international law.
