The search for some post work-out fuel led our ravenous collective of volunteers to the falafel shop down the road from home. The food is cheap, delicious, and the Lebanese owners, previous residents of the camp, offer a friendly welcome to refugees and volunteers alike.

Walking through Vathy, the hub of Samos, Greece, I feel like a tourist in a picturesque Greek postcard. Boutiques and stores filled with organic products line the narrow, cobblestone streets, making it easy to forget about last night’s stabbing in the food queue.

Though I am writing this blog post on American soil, I already wish I was back in Belgrade, eating cevapi while overlooking the Sava river. It is hard to believe that my time in Belgrade has come to an end, yet I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity and experience I had.
