I am an upcoming second-year student at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, spending my summer in Singapore for my internship with the Center for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD).
After meeting with the Canadian embassy in Quito Monday morning, BUILD members Cristina, Cami, and I and our contact at Libraries Without Borders (LWB), Kat, flew to Loja that afternoon and drove to Los Encuentros the morning after to meet with Lundin Gold, a Canadian mining company that operates there.
This June, I had the opportunity to travel to Ecuador with fellow BUILD Latin America members, Cristina da Gama and Cami Rovalino, to work on our club’s project with Libraries Without Borders (LWB). BUILD has been partnering with LWB to implement KoomBook programs in communities in Ecuador without access to internet connection.
We met with scholars, academics, military officers, and government officials at places like the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), the National Defense Academy, the U.S. Embassy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Prime Minister’s Office.

After four and half days of work throughout the village of Silvio Mayorga, my trip to Nicaragua with Tufts Engineers without Borders concluded with a town meeting. Just before our return to Managua, we brought everyone together, from the community water board to neighborhood children.
